Pedigree Favors Big Brown

Boundary Colt Inbred to Northern Dancer and Round Table

Triple Crown winners have great pedigrees, and Big Brown is favored here, as well. His daddy, Boundary, and his dam, Mien, trace to Northern Dancer and Round Table.

If Big Brown's pappy, Boundary, doesn't ring an immediate bell, or two, his inbred relatives do. Boundary's poppa is the successful sire, Danzig, a colt by Northern Dancer, by Big Brown's great-great grandsire, Nearctic (sired by Nearco), who paired with Natalma, a mare by Native Dancer.

Boundary and Mien's Parentage

Boundary's female sire line traces to Damascus and Sword Dancer. Bold Ruler shows up as a Boundary great-great grandsire in his female line. Round Table is a Boundary female line great grandsire.

Big Brown's dam is Mien. Sired by Nureyev (a French champion miler), Mien, like Boundary, was grandparented by Northern Dancer. Damascus and Round Table are great and great-great grandsires, respectively, in Mien's female parentage line.

Boundary Retired from Stud

Boundary was retired from stud this month, and will live peacefully at his home, Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky. Twenty-one stakes winners were produced by Big Brown's daddy, and, oh, yes, he sired one Kentucky Derby winner.

In two years of racing, Boundary won six of eight starts. As a stallion, he produced 11 crops, 421 foals, 323 starters, and 244 race winners.
