Filly and Injuries Alter Preakness Line-upI Want Revenge Injury Career Threatening, Friesan Fire UnconfirmedThe Preakness Stakes line-up has been altered with the possible addition of super filly Rachel Alexandra, and by injuries to I Want Revenge and Friesan Fire.
I Want Revenge, the morning line Kentucky Derby favorite who couldn't post up on Derby day, and excellent filly Rachel Alexandra will both affect the final line-up for the running of the second jewel of the American Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, set for May 16 at Baltimore, Maryland's Pimlico Race Course. Rachel Alexandra is the first Kentucky Derby Oaks winner pointed to the Preakness Stakes. She won that contest by over 20 lengths. She and Borel are unbeaten in five trips. I Want Revenge Won't Be In PreaknessI Want Revenge has been diagnosed with oblique sesamoidean ligament damage in his right front leg. The colt under-went an MRI and its results were called "...not good news" by veterinarian Foster Northrup. At the least, the injury is career-threatening, Northrup reported. D.V.M. Larry Bramlage, a long-time Derby day figure, was called in to observe I Want Revenge's case, the horse's owners told interviewers, to thwart any questions about I Want Revenge's Derby day scratch being legitimate. Bramlage commended the decision to scratch the lame colt. The Stephen Got Even--Meguial (ARG), by Roy colt is under treatment at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital at Lexington. Friesan Fire and Rachel Alexandra Remain UnconfirmedAlong with filly Rachel Alexandra, Kentucky Derby post time favorite Friesan Fire is on the latest preliminary list for the Preakness. Both graded stakes winners are currently listed as unconfirmed. Rachel Alexandra was not a Triple Crown race nominee. She would have to be supplemented to the Preakness Stakes for $100,000. However, she could not bump a nominated entry, and the race is limited to fourteen horses. Presently, there are eleven confirmed entrants. Friesan Fire ran eighteenth in the Derby after being clipped coming out of the gate. Current Preakness Stakes Line-up
