When Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables purchased filly Rachel Alexandra following her stupendous victory in the Kentucky Oaks, the filly's regular rider, Calvin Borel, commited to stay on her back for whatever races were next scheduled for the talented Medaglia d' Oro--Lotta Kim, by Roar offspring. Steve Asmussen, conditioner of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin, has been named the new trainer of Rachel Alexandra. Borel also won the Kentucky Derby on longshot Mine That Bird, a mount he had for the first time. Mine That Bird is committed to run in the Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of America's Triple Crown series scheduled this year for May 16. The race is annually run at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Just four fillies in the history of the Preakness Stakes have won the race. It's interesting that Joe Talamo might be available.
